Apparently, I was awarded a finalist trophy for my participation in the Miss Teenage Trinidad and Tobago pageant, although my performance made me think differently.
A week after the show, the delegates were all invited to the pageant coordinators' home to receive our awards. How nice of her to present us all with something for our participation. Immediately after the show, I tried to bury the memory of my horrible performance and evening wear trousers. I felt so embarrassed by my silly answer to my interview question and the audiences' reaction to my choice of evening wear.
This trophy, however, will always be a constant reminder of my poor performance. It also serves as a validation that I did, in fact, take part in the show and that, in itself, isn't a bad thing. In the world of modelling and pageantry, every show counts and for me, amidst the bad memories, this one counts too!
